20 Nov A Letter to Myself on My Birthday

Dear Stefanie,

Happy birthday. You’re still a 20-something. Congratulations.

What, you expected more? Sorry. This isn’t a milestone. You could already vote. You’ve taken advantage of your 21st for years, now. No new perks, and you still just want a trip to Disneyland for your special day.

You’re still in the trenches of building your first business, and steps away from businesses 2-4. Big plans ahead.

You’ll be married this time next year. So there’s something.

It’s okay that you’re more interested in new restaurants than new shoes. It’s okay that you struggle with the anxieties and insecurities of running a business. Isn’t it incredible how much you’ve learned over the last year? Imagine what this next year has in store for you.

The thing is, Stef: You’re a good person. You have good intentions. You want to share your knowledge and experiences, and enrich the lives of others.

Keep paddling away, even when the course runs upstream. Make a promise to take more than one vacation next year, and to get outside a little more. Sleep a little longer and focus a little more at work.

Let’s do this again next year, and see how it goes. I have a feeling it will all be just fine.
