The Best Things We Ate This Month: March

Phoenix Food! A community is only as good as its food. Okay — maybe that’s not the whole picture. But if you know us, you know we love finding great new places to eat! Luckily, we live in Phoenix, Arizona, where you’ll find one of the fastest growing food scenes in America. Every month, we share the best things we ate here in the valley. But, you can always follow us along on Instagram and Facebook for more of the best places to eat in Metro Phoenix!

The Meaty One & Sweet and Spicy Snag @ Base Pizzeria

The Best Things We Ate This Month | Lugo & Co.

There are a few reasons why Base hit our list this month. Bryce and I swaggered in at 9:00 pm on a Friday after a full day of back-to-back meetings, desperately in need of some comfort food. We ordered two pizzas, thinking we’d have enough for leftovers. The Meaty One was topped with pepperoni, soppresseta, organic crushed tomatoes, and pork & fennel sausage. The Sweet and Spicy Snag, a pizza topped with chile (jalapeño), carmelized onion, and that delicious sausage.

Mamma Mia, this was some good pie! So good, that Bryce and I literally ate very. piece. of. pizza. [Obligatory reminder that Lugo & Co. is a No Judgement Zone.] As if the pie wasn’t good enough, they had HOUSE INFUSED OLIVE OILS for us to dip with. And, let me tell you, you’ve never lived if you haven’t had pizza with Smoked Ghost Pepper Infused Olive Oil. You haven’t lived, and you can’t convince me otherwise, until you try this. To top it all off, the staff was downright lovable (Hi, Michael!) and half of them had Australian accents. Go now and get your pizza!

Breakfast Scramble & Bloody Mary @ St. Francis

The Best Things We Ate This Month | Lugo & Co.

We’ve been going to St. Francis for years now! Did you know they are sisters with Phoenix Public Market? Most of our stops have included dinner and drinks, or a Dark & Stormy cocktail off their Happy Hour menu. But, you should know they also have an excellent brunch. This month, we had brunch on the patio and left perfectly happy after a chorizo scramble and one of the best Bloody Mary’s we have had in months!

Bryce got the chorizo scramble with spinach, and a side of toast baked from Phoenix Public. House made lingonberry (whatever) preserves with the toast were heaven. The Bloody Mary mix is made in house, and was perfectly spicy, savory and salty. We settled on sharing one, because waistlines, but I could have sipped on one of these all day!

Nitro Cold Brew @ Peixoto Coffee

The Best Things We Ate This Month | Lugo & Co.

Every now and then, we come across one of those restaurants that have the BEST Instagram feeds. We like all of their photos. Comment, even, when so pressed. Sometimes even profess our long-distance love for them — great branding and photography give much to be appreciated, after all. Peixoto Coffee was one such Instagram account for us, and finally we stopped in for a visit this month.

If you ever find yourself in Downtown Chandler, please stop here first. You’ll need the caffeine to see the rest of the strip of restaurants and shops, anyway. The decor is beautiful, and there are plenty of comfy places to sit. Bryce got a Nitro Cold Brew that was one of the smoothest, creamy-dreamiest cold brews we’ve had! My choice was a Cortado, which is a perfect option if you don’t need as much milk as a latte, but something more than straight espresso. Yum! A perfect coffee spot, if I were to be so bold! Until our next trip out there, we will continue to admire from afar on their Instagram page, and we think you should, too.
