29 Jul Our Big Vacation
We are finally back and getting settled in after a week long vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The two of us hadn’t been on a vacation since August of 2015, so after almost a year of being completely land-locked we were itching for some ocean fun!
When Bryce’s family announced their big family vacation for July in Riviera Maya, we were so. on. board. Seven days and six nights in Mexico, with the beautiful ocean just steps away? Yes, please!
We could barely contain our excitement as we boarded the plane:
…Or, maybe it was just Stefanie. Either way, we were off to a real vacation!
On Saturday, we arrived at our resort around 5 pm, just in time to throw down our bags and look for a good dinner spot. The resort was nestled in a Mayan jungle, and we couldn’t believe the dense, green foliage! Friendly iguanas roamed the wooden walkways, and funny looking birds scampered away as we passed.
The whole family got together for dinner on Saturday evening. We were tired, hungry, and adjusting to some killer humidity! The resort had several restaurants, so we chose the gourmet dinner buffet and treated ourselves to a smorgasborg of comfort food after our long day of travel!
As we finished dinner, the sun was setting over the lagoon next to the restaurant, and we were treated to a beautiful sunset:
After dinner, we walked down to the beach. The kiddos in the family were clamoring to dip their toes in warm Caribbean waters, and Bryce was wanting to see the docks that stretch far out over the sea.
At some point, the kids and family scampered off, and it was just the two of us as the full moon set over the waters. We won’t ever forget how crystal clear the water was in the moonlight – we could see all the way to the sandy sea floor!
As Stefanie fumbled with her camera, trying to take pictures of the bright moon in the darkness (the sparkling silver waters were just so beautiful!), Bryce hung back.
When Stefanie turned around, Bryce was waiting with the sweetest words she’d heard. Always the awkward one, Stefanie didn’t quite catch on to what was happening — that is, until Bryce took a step back, her hands still in his, and simply said, “Are you ready?”.
And dropped to one knee.
Under the moonlight, on a dock over the sparkling Caribbean sea, Bryce (finally) proposed to Stefanie!
While she had hopeful thoughts about this big day coming soon, Stefanie was completely shocked when he pulled out the most gorgeous diamond ring she had ever seen. No tears came, at first — instead, a resounding, “Of course, I will!” and a shout of pure happiness and excitement!
The rest of the week passed in a blur of sunshine and poolside toasts. The vacation we had been waiting for for months had turned out to become a memory we will never forget!
