28 Jun Honeymooning in Paradise: Our Trip to Grenada (+Video!)

We are BACK, we are TAN, we are ten pounds heavier, and we are ready to dish about our 10 day honeymoon in Grenada!

A week after the wedding, we booked a 10 day honeymoon to Grenada. Grenada is a teeny-tiny island deep in the south Caribbean. We chose Grenada because it felt remote enough for a honeymoon, without having to lose a day both ways to travel. It took about 10 hours of travel time to reach St. Georges from Phoenix, and a quick 5 minute drive later, we were at the resort!

Grenada is far enough south to avoid the worst of the hurricanes and tropical storms, but we did visit in June, the start of their rainy season. Other than a few showers here and there that passed quickly, we had mostly beautiful sunshine and warm waters! For the rain, we gained big time in blooming flowers and green grasses. This was one seriously colorful place.

We stayed at Sandals La Source, one of the brand’s newer resorts, and it was MIND BLOWING. We chose it for our honeymoon because we knew we could count on amazing service and fantastic food. This resort in particular is known for being a bit smaller and intimate, and very quiet — perfect for the chill time we desperately needed!

Because we were staying for 10 full nights, we chose to split our stay into two rooms to really get to know the resort! First up, was a one-bedroom South Seas Butler Suite with an Infinity Pool (!!!).

This was the first time we’ve had butler service, and we think it was totally worth it! Our butlers were amazing (Hi, Renel and Hassan!). They didn’t hover, they simply checked in from time to time to make sure our every whim and fancy were seen to. One great perk about butler service was being able to have food delivered from any restaurant on the resort, in addition to regular room service.

The South Seas part of the resort was secluded and quiet, even with it being close to the main pool. We had complete privacy on our private patio! The pool wasn’t heated, but was the perfect temp after a hot afternoon. And don’t get me started on the private hot tub!

Speaking of the food, everything was perfect. Bryce is a picky-er eater, and I have the eclectic palette. Let me tell you, we didn’t have one. bad. meal. And we ate EVERYTHING. With drinks included, we also took advantage of top-shelf liquor and sparkling wines. To balance it out, the two of us probably drank 20 water-bottles a day!

The first half of our stay, we really wanted to just veg. We did do a half-day trip around the island, which was the perfect amount of time to get a taste for our home away from home. Grenada is known as “Spice Island”, and they grow insane amounts of nutmeg! We visited the spice production plant, the rum distillery, and the markets. Also, a quick stop around a military fort created in the 1700’s! It was really fun walking around the island, Carib in hand, and looking at the flowers and fruit trees. Avocado, mango, pineapple, cinnamon, you name it — if you could eat it, it grew everywhere!

Grand Anse Beach

Another quick day-trip we did was to the local Grand Anse Beach. Just a ten minute drive from the resort, this beach was HUGE, and much easier to swim in than the resort beach. We swam with fishes, drank beer from a cooler packed by our butlers, and soaked up some sun for hours.

Once we were ready for a bite to eat, we walked over to Umbrellas, the cutest little beach shack. We ate loaded fries, and drank local beer and rum punch. It was an amazing time and we definitely recommend it if you’re in the area!

Italian Village Sky Pool

Bryce saw the word “Sky Pool” in the room description and couldn’t resist booking it as our second room. For how much we LOVED the South Seas room, the Italian Village was off. the. HOOK. The view! The Infinity Pool! Did I mention the view? We stayed on the fourth floor, which ended up being important. The fourth floor is the only floor that gives each room an extended patio with a lounge area and walking path around the pool! This room was perfect for the one super rainy day of the trip. We lounged under the patio all day, watched the clouds pass, and crushed some room service and mimosas!

We made some incredible friends on the trip, which was so fun for us. Apart from Renel and Hassan, Ricky at the resort pub (The “Tipsy Turtle”! Ha!) was our best friend for late night drinks! We also made great friends with some of the guests, and we all booked a trip on the same week of next June at the newest Sandals opening in Barbados! After that, who knows…maybe the new Jamaica over-water villas? All I know, is as long as we are together, anywhere is paradise. 🙂
