Paradise: Our 2018 Barbados Trip

Our Trip to Barbados

We celebrated our first anniversary this year in beautiful Barbados! After 8 days of exploring the island, we are so excited to share some of our highlights from the trip.

During our honeymoon in Grenada last year, we chose to book this trip a year in advance. We stayed at a Sandals and got a great discount for booking our trip to Barbados while still on the resort, and it has been a lot of fun to look forward to this vacay over the last twelve months! The anticipation was half the fun!

Barbados is one of the southernmost Caribbean islands, and getting there is quite the treck from Phoenix. But, as soon as you touch down, it’s a quick 15-minute drive to the resort. The room we booked included a transfer in a Rolls Royce, which was way too fun!

Another fun fact about Barbados is that it’s far enough south that it typically doesn’t get hit with hurricanes. We visited during June and had one day of rain (rainy season starts that month!), and the rest of the days were fine. Rainy days don’t bother us; we spend time in our balcony pool or soaking tub with cocktails and have a nice quiet day together.

Because of an unexpected and atypical seaweed issue on the resort’s beach, we spent a lot of time exploring the island and seeing all that Barbados has to offer. Barbados is known for their rum production, as well as gorgeous beaches along the western side of the island. We learned that the Bajan people are incredibly friendly and that crime on the island is among the lowest in the Caribbean.

We stayed at Sandals Royal Barbados. It will be hard for anything to top our dream honeymoon, but we definitely enjoyed our stay here. The Royal is brand new in the last six months and built right next to the 3-to-4-year-old Sandals Barbados property, and you can stop by all the restaurants at either resort – 11 in total!

Our room was a beachfront butler suite with an infinity pool and soaking tub on the balcony. The room was beautiful, and if you can get a room with a swim up or private pool, you definitely should! Butler service is also great to have for getting food from the restaurants any time you want, getting reservations in the restaurants, and just all around concierge. Our butler from Grenada, Renel, was there while we were and it was so fun being able to reconnect!

The food at Sandals is seriously good, especially considering its an all-inclusive! We loved the steakhouse, sushi, and definitely hit the creperie about twenty times. Ha!

Another special part of Sandals Royal Barbados is their first infinity pool as well as their first skypool and bar, looking over the ocean. Both were super fun places to hang out and take in the sight of the Caribbean.

We had an awesome time exploring the island, including a beautiful catamaran through the western waters; a private tour of the oldest rum distillery in the world, Mount Gay; a quick drive-by Rhianna’s old house; a neighborhood fish fry at Oistins, and a fun stop at the beautiful Carlisle Bay.

We did book another trip while we were there – but you’ll have to guess where we are headed until 2019! Would love to know your thoughts on this gorgeous island, so please leave a comment below!

Congratulations on your anniversary. This will be our second sandals trip to. We leave in a few days. I watched your video and loved your blog post. How did you book the private tour of the rum distillery?
