The Best Things We Ate This Month: Thanksgiving Edition

A community is only as good as its food. Okay – not really, but if you know us, you know we love finding great new places to eat! Luckily, we live in Phoenix, Arizona, home one of the fastest growing food scenes in America. Every month, we share the best things we ate here in the valley. But, you can always follow us along on Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook for more of the best places to eat in Metro Phoenix!

The Best Things We Ate This Month: Thanksgiving Edition

This month, we are celebrating the best kind of food: the kind shared with family and friends! Here are our favorite things from Thanksgiving — food, and otherwise. We hope you had a wonderful holiday, filled with good food and warm company!

Bryce & Stefanie | Lugo & Co. Bryce: We do Thanksgiving dinner with my family, and there’s nothing better than relaxing out on the patio on a fall evening in Arizona. My favorite picks from dinner were the smoked ham, and the flaky biscuits. The biscuits come from a tin (#blessings), but the ham is smoked low and slow by my uncle Andre, for the better part of a day. This is always something I look forward to — delicious! This year, and every year, we are so thankful to get to spend time with all of our nieces and nephews, and the whole family.

Stefanie: Every year, mom bakes dozens of cinnamon rolls over the holiday season. I have this vivid memory of being 11 or 12 years old, with mom and grandma in the kitchen. She would stretch rolls of dough that must have been almost eight feet long! There they’d go, down the line, cutting the roll into pieces with floss, ready for the oven. She still does this every year. This Thanksgiving brunch, there was a special place on the table for the cinnamon rolls. It’s nice to know that no matter how much life changes, we have these quirky traditions to keep us anchored.

Kacey & Family | Lugo & Co.Kacey: Thanksgiving, the holiday dedicated to food, family, friends, and traditions. Did I mention lots of food? Growing up, my family owned a restaurant so I am sure you can guess that eating is a hobby of ours. We love fellowship together and delicious food, we basically have Thanksgiving every other week minus the turkey and stuffing! This special holiday comes with many traditions like grandma’s perfect mashed potatoes and homemade gravy; we all enjoy making a mountain of potatoes with corn mixed in and lots of gravy! My uncle makes the turkey; he is quite the perfectionist and he never lets us down. My other uncle makes chocolate silk pie and it is basically what dreams are made of. Mimosas with sherbet were a new addition to our Thanksgiving traditions, they were so tasty!! But, my personal favorite will always be my mom’s green been casserole – a secret family recipe that wins the hearts of everyone who tastes it. Savory and sensational, it is actually impossible to have one serving. This Thanksgiving was nothing short of amazing, lots and lots of family time, seconds and third servings of food, not to mention food comas followed along with lengthy naps! The gym has been my best friend (or worst enemy) this week thanks to the amount of food I had during Thanksgiving weekend!
